A treatment suited to you
Your appointment starts with a conversation about your activity, training load and current symptoms. Treatment is adapted to the area involved and the pressure you find comfortable.
Paul Morrison is a chiropractor and sports massage therapist with an ITEC Level 5 sports massage qualification. His experience includes working with people who train regularly as well as those returning to activity.
What sports massage may help with
- Short-term muscle soreness after training
- A feeling of tightness or stiffness
- Comfort and relaxation as part of recovery
- Short-term flexibility
Research suggests massage may make a modest difference to soreness and flexibility. It has not been shown to directly improve strength, speed or endurance. We will be clear about what it can and cannot reasonably do.
When an assessment matters
New pain or pain after a clear injury should be assessed rather than treated as ordinary post-exercise soreness. The same applies to marked swelling, loss of strength, numbness or symptoms that are getting worse. We will discuss whether massage is appropriate before treatment begins.
